**Please note that the FIELD versatility test is not a natural ability test;
to pass the FIELD versatility test, dogs should have some experience in the field, be comfortable running with other dogs as it is run in brace format, have been exposed to shotgun fire, and be able to retrieve shot birds to their handlers. If your dog does not conform to these standards, you should enter the Introduction to Birds, rather than this VCA Field Test. This test is limited to the first 12 entries.
The Vizsla Club of America, Inc. runs the Versatility Program. Any AKC registered Vizsla who has reached the age of six (6) months on the day of the tests may be entered. Litter number may be used for participation; however, no certificates will be issued until the Vizsla is registered by the AKC and the AKC number is sent to the VCA Versatility Chairman. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches are eligible to enter all versatility tests. Bitches in season may be entered in all versatility tests, but will have to run at the end of each test after all others have been tested. If your bitch comes into season, please let the Secretary know ahead of time. It is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your bitch in season.
To receive a certificate in a testing area (field, obedience, or conformation), your dog must pass three (3) tests in that area under three different judges (or provide the alternative proof specified in the rules). We are providing you with the opportunity to earn two conformation passes and two obedience passes in one day. There will be separate testing for conformation and obedience in the morning and again in the afternoon, and you are permitted to enter both tests for each area. We are providing up to 12 dogs with the opportunity to earn one field pass (weather constraints require that we limit the field entry). To familiarize yourself with the VCA Versatility Program, and to read the rules and requirements of each test as they will be applied to your dog at the tests, please visit the VCA website http://clubs.akc.org/vizsla/versatility.htm.
Pre-registration is required. To register, please complete the entry form and return to Debbie Loomis before noon on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. You will be assigned a testing time which will be posted on CVVC’s website (www.ctvalleyvizslaclub.org) by Friday, June 18, 2010. The schedule will be strictly enforced. No refunds will be made after entries close. *Entries may be allowed after the closing date if the Committee determines time and space allows.
What to Bring: A crate, a show lead for conformation, and a buckle collar and lead for obedience. For field, please bring a fluorescent field collar for the dog and an orange vest for handler. Water is available on the grounds.
PLEASE CHECK IN WITH THE EVENT SECRETARY UPON YOUR ARRIVAL.
TESTING & RUNNING TIMES WILL BE POSTED ON THE CVVC WEBSITE BY
FRIDAY, JUNE 18, 2010. (www.ctvalleyvizslaclub.org)
II. INTRODUCTION TO BIRDS INFORMATION & ENTRY FEES (Min. Age 3 months)
The Introduction to Birds is an opportunity to introduce your Vizsla to bird work. We are running these events like hunt tests so that you may familiarize yourself with the procedures of the junior level of the AKC Hunt Test Program. An experienced person/mentor will work with each handler and bird contact is guaranteed. The dogs will be braced (two dogs running together); the course will be approximately 30 minutes. Handlers will NOT be permitted to carry blank guns at this event. Only the mentors may shoot the blank guns and only when appropriate. You may indicate on the Entry Form if you prefer not to have blank guns shot during your brace. We hope to run two or three concurrent courses. The actual schedule will be posted on the website by Friday, June 18, 2010 at www.ctvalleyvizslaclub.org.
Puppies must be at least three months of age to participate. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches are welcome to participate. Bitches in season may participate, but only after all others have run. If your bitch comes into season, please let the Secretary know ahead of time. It is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your bitch in season.
Pre-registration is required. To register, complete the entry form and return it to Debbie Loomis before noon on Tuesday, June 15, 2010*. The cost is $25.00 per dog. No refunds after the closing date. You will be assigned a running time which will be posted on the web page and the schedule will be strictly enforced. If you are not present to run in your time slot, you will forfeit your opportunity to run. *Entries may be accepted after the closing date if the Committee determines time and space allows. If you have any questions regarding this portion of the event, contact Debbie at 413-566-5733 or windyhollow@charter.net.
Location: Flaherty Field Trial Area, Tromley Road, E. Windsor, CT 06088
Time: Not before 7:30 a.m. (see website for schedule)
Bring: Bring a crate, collar and walking lead (please, no flexi-leads). It is advisable to wear long pants because the course may have poison ivy, prickers, and ticks. Bring footwear appropriate for muddy conditions. Water is available on the grounds.
III. CANINE TATOOING
Protect your dog in case off loss or theft. Donna Blews-Pappas will be tattooing dogs during the other events. Owners may choose to register their dogs with either the National Dog Registry or Tattoo-a-Pet. The tattooing fee is $20 per dog. Tattooing is not limited to Vizslas. Advanced payment is not required but please send an email to windyhollow@charter.net so we know how many dogs to expect.
Donna has been tattooing dogs for many years. She became involved with dogs and dogs shows in 1975. She is an approved judge for both AKC obedience and rally. She has been involved in performance events through AKC, UKC, CKC, and ASCA. Donna is also a member of the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors.
